Success in Theory examinations requires much more than memorising facts. Pupils must demonstrate a secure understanding of musical notation, rhythm, keys, scales, intervals, chords, musical terms and musical analysis.

Performance Grades are assessed from a video recording and place particular emphasis on communication, interpretation, musical character and overall presentation. Examiners assess pitch, rhythm, tone, musical shape and performance quality throughout the programme.
